2016 High Lifter Mud Nationals presented by Polaris
Location: Jacksonville Texas
Spring is here and with the sunshine and blooming flowers comes the events we have missed through the cold months of winter. The one annual event that we love to attend is the High Lifter Mud Nationals. In the sleepy little town of Jacksonville, Texas thousands of mudders from all over the USA and some from around the globe come to test their equipment and visit with old friends from years past. This year’s bash would be ready as the trailers of machines rolled through the gates and when the campers were hooked up, ice had been purchased and ATV’s were unloaded; it was game on!
High Lifter Products has been holding this yearly event for over 14 years now thanks to the creative minds of Mike Smith and his HL Products front man Dan Doughty. These two derived the plan to get all of their forum members together to share the trails and to share ideas about off road. It was also Mike Smith and his son Scott who had come up with the very first ATV lift kit known to the industry. Through a simple need these two had unknowingly at the time created a company that would revolutionize the industry.
If you found yourself wandering the newly renovated vendor area you would see that the space for vendors had been increased and some took advantage of the incredible new area. Polaris enticed the crowd by registering attendees who visited their booth for two 2016 units. Two folks became true mudders by winning a Polaris Sportsman and RZR High Lifter Edition, specifically designed for mud. Arctic Cat was one of those who utilized their space well by almost doubling the amount of presence at the event. They would also sponsor several events including the Mudda-Cross and the Poker Run to make the big green cat a little more visible. Suzuki had come with their hauler in hope to step into the world of mudding with the King Quad. It was good to see all of the major brands that had attended. High Lifter Products even had their big tent selling all of their innovative products.
High Lifter Mud Nationals is not the same without great events and chances to win prizes along the way. High Lifter teamed up with MB Quart to add in the “Wheel of fortune” of sorts and if you were one of the lucky spinners of the big wheel there were products from vendors all throughout the vendor area. The spins took place three times a day and for twenty minutes each time. Its was a popular add to the list of “to do’s” while you were there.
Of course good eats is part of the show and the food vendors were scattered through out the park. But the biggest events that seem to attract the crowds are the racing competitions. The fact that you can trick a buddy into the Endurance run on the high line and then take them up to the Arctic Cat Mudda-Cross to really lay the smack down seemed to be the biggest attractions for this years High Lifter Mud Nationals event.
However, with the new kid in town, the UTV racing is gaining ground as an extremely exciting part of the weeks shows. There were many UTVs set up for racing and several that seemed to have been simply pulled off of the trailer and entered to race. You could really tell who was serious about the race though as teams like Hess Motor Sports showed up to do business. The hills all around the UTV race track were packed with spectators and this is something that Scott Smith hopes will increase by double in the coming years. Friday and Saturday night offered a night of music at the Polaris Extreme Outlaw Concert with headliners such as Josh Thompson and Colt Ford.
Creating good racing and lots of things for folks to do during the real heat of the day has been something the team at High Lifter Products seems to have a knack for and we cannot wait to see just what waits for us in 2017.
